| 1/12/2011 Did you see the Tucson memorial speech ? I thought it was very elegant the way President Obama spoke and the tributes to the victims were very elegant, nothing political, I take my hat off to him for a great speech.... Cheers..Joe... |

| We can always hope, but I don't think bickering caused this. Arizona has no controls whatsoever on guns. They are focused on the wrong problems. Joe, you wondered how this nut got a gun permit--he didn't need one.
Arizona is a good place to stay away from. |

Alice...
Doesn't matter what state, anyone can get a gun permit, all they do is a FBI background check to see if you have a criminal background, too bad they don't do a psychological check....
Cheers..Joe |

| Joe,
You are so right.
This is scary. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/opinion/2013907339_herbert12.html
We need to get a handle on violence. What on earth is the matter with us?

| If guns are banned with special exceptions for which the rules and regulations are strenuous, those rules would include a psyche check.
The right "to bear arms" is straight out of the old west - it is an extension of the masculine anatomy. Its sexual connection to masculinity and power is the reason guns remain so popular. Take a man's right to have a gun and he is missing a piece of his anatomy.
Of course there are exceptions; but the most gun crazy states are those that still cling to the "Old West" culture and thought patterns.
Gun ownership as male power also fits well with those religious beliefs where the man is, indeed, the head of the household, the protector of the family, the bearer of arms.
I do not believe the police forces of multiple jurisdictions or the U.S. military will invade my home. I believe they will protect me if they can from thieves and marauders. Let them do the shooting while I hide.
A young lady in Ft. Myers gave an intruder who tried to get her purse inside her apartment such a kick he went running out the door. She was protecting herself and her baby - she didn't need a gun. What women need for protection is the physical strength that they can develop and the reflexes to use it when necessary.
The only women you hear clammering for guns are those in the Old West acting states who are out hunting with their men or the mousy wives of religious fanatics who are supporting the "man of the house."
Powerful women do not need guns. They have their intellect. Men, on the otherhand, are another subject entirely. |
