I've come up with another way of "fixing" your birthday star once and for all, for the whole of one's life

Stars of course rise in the east in the early evening, reach their highest point in the sky ("culmination") due south at midnight and set in the west by dawn.

The north-south line in the sky is the observer's local meridian:
