So I've put together another list for everyone. This time it is press release sites. All of these sites offer both paid and free press release services. The paid packages offer more features, but the free ones will get your press release sent over the wire.

No problem, the list is current as of yesterday. Great way send out announcements of anything related to your books or writing that is news worthy. Also a great way to get backlinks if you are into SEO and the like.

Just thought I would let everyone know I've updated the list. It is current as of yesterday. Remember, you can use press releases for more then just announcing your book - book signings, speaking events, anything newsworthy really.

I'm very new to all of this. How do I make a press release? What information do I need to put into it? What are your tips?

The rules for press releases remain the same: Contact Information and date

The words, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Then answer in this order: Who? What? When? Where?

Add a statement that makes this event unique and critical for the press to print - tie to local color, local celebrity, local charity, something to get the release noticed.

Be as brief as possible. Say it how you would like to see it printed - they will likely change it, usually shorten it. Sometimes local press will print as is.

I always attach some pictures that would go well with the article just in case; high end papers don't want attachment; locals usually print the pictures on a slow news day.

I don't know how well she does selling books, but http://www.delialatham.net/presskit.htm has it together for a web site and for marketing materials. Careful - she also sells marketing materials. I just recommend her site as a good press kit example. She was always very helpful to other authors also. I haven't exchanged posts with her in quite a while.
