Wish I knew some 'under 25' gals that I could send your way! Then again, I don't know if anyone could handle it.

Dear Dick, When I think of the word octogenarian, it brings lovely pictures to my mind of people with eight legs and arms and zodiac signs on each of their appendages with a big sun shining out of one lone eye in the middle of their one head that the sun is rising behind. Have you ever posed for a portrait? I planted beans today and got to thinking about Jack and The Bean Stalk and that giant in the castle at the top who had that goose that laid golden eggs. As I planted bean after bean, I saw the hope in the seed of the bean and consider that if that story was written by George Orwell that the sybolism and allegory and hidden message would be put out in those Cliff's note books that we all cheated with in school when we could have given less of a hoot what the author was really trying to say without saying it. Love, Betty

I think more about Jack the Ripper than Jack and the Bean Stalk, but that's just me. Hope your beans rise as high as Jack's. I always laugh when academics start discussing what a writer was trying to say. The writer, who was much smarter than the academics, said exactly what he meant.

According to Dr. Wayne Dyer, author of several self-help books, the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) once asked permission to use a passage from one of his books in one of their tests. He agreed, but asked to be sent a copy of the test once it was released. They did so, including a scoring guidebook. Dr. Dyer, in The Power of Intention, says he looked through the test, found the passage, and for fun, answered the four questions that followed. Since he had the guidebook, he decided to check his answers, and was surprised to find he got one wrong. He read that he had, "missed the intent of the author." Ann
