Alice, The most entertaining time on the PA boards was when you dismantled Pier's and James' everlasting threads. A lot of fun, and I couldn't wait to get back and see what was happening next. Lane was a great contributor to the entertainment. Rainbow, too. Ah, those were the days . . .

Helen, Thank you. It makes me wonder if Rudy isn't the moderator. He lectured me so much on my attitude and Lane too. Lane is hilarious-- I never saw anyone who could say so much with so few words. His computer broke down and he had me doing research for him. It was so much fun--I loved it. Then I went to the ER with "indigestion," They kept me for further testing. Finally, I told him I was in the hospital awaiting a major heart overhaul and he was surprised. He said he could not imagine me working from a hospital bed. I told him it beat counting the squares on the ceiling. He wrote fairthfully everyday--from the 28th of May unitl the 18th of June then a power surge fried his house and all of the wiring. He is much missed. I am so sorry about Rainbow. Pier is funny--she likes you to agree with her 100%. We were friends until I would not, cculd not agree that men are smarter than women. She harrassed Lane to the point it was ridiculous. I am glad her thread is gone. Fair is fair.

Ha! Rainbow thought that Rudy may be the moderator, too! I always enjoyed Lane's posts. You're right about him saying so much with so few words. What a shame that you've lost contact with him. Yes, Rainbow's situation was very sad and a complete shock--especially to him! Pier drove me crazy! I checked out of those boards after that men are smarter than women thing she was trying to drive into all of us. I was glad to see her thread finally gone! Great job!! I don't think she knows what's fair. I once made a comment about some of the people on the boards acting like vultures in defense of Rainbow, and she came after me with her nastiness, telling Rainbow that he should try and control me and what I say! We had a good laugh!

Does anyone here remember H.B. Marcus? He was...very strange. He used to post a lot of "PA is great" type messages over on Absolute Write. And then of course there were the posts he made on the public PA boards. I wonder what happened to him? -Ann C. Crispin

| Hmmmmmmmmmm. This was a fun thread to read through - so "DK Christi was paging Dick and Pier - in the same breath?" I still can't get on the PA board. Guess I'm permanently banned for asking questions - I did find the board interesting and helpful. My book went from $29.95 to $19.95 to $24.95. So much for ever selling any more of those! _________________ "All I know is in this moment." www.dkchristi.comwww.authorsden.com/dkchristiGhost Orchid Love, lies & redemption;a mystery unfolds. | Brenda is absolutely right in her analysis of PublishAmerica's business model. Willem and Larry have admitted during an arbitration, under oath, that the vast majority of their book sales are to the book's own authors, and that this is the way their company's business model is intentionally structured. It's easy to figure this out when you look at the PA site, and compare it to the site for any commercial publishing house, say, HarperCollins. The PA site is set up to sell their services to authors. The HC site is set up to sell their books to the reading public. -Ann C. Crispin |

I'm really glad I read this forum because I was thinking about going with Publish American and it seems like just a scam. I am currently self published and have great quality and get my books inexpensively when I buy them. It sounds like a headache having to deal with inflated prices, "specials" etc...

I just published with them. I spent over 2 years querying agents upon agents and trying to get through with smaller publishing companies, but nothing worked. It's almost like no agent wants you unless you're previously published. Then one of my old schoolmates published with PA and he was quite pleased, so I said what the heck, why not. So far, I haven't had many problems with PA, but I guess that's because I didn't publish my book with high hopes of becoming an NY Times Bestseller. The only complaint I have about them is I let them design my book cover, and it looks very plain an unattractive. My book in particular has a much less attractive cover than most of PA's other books I've seen. Here it is if anyone wants to see it:
