Bottom line, I see "red" about some things. When people tell me my kids can't read a book because they don't want their kids reading the book, I become so furious, I can't see straight.

Or talk straight either. Banned Books Week "pushes my buttons" and reminds me that there are still people out there I don't understand and they make me lose my cool.

Malcom,
a book being banned or placed on a prohibited list creates a demand for the book.

Perhaps if we inundate them with books to be banned, they may stop this nonsense. You are welcome to offer my book for their "banning list."

Thanks for leaving a comment there, Pam. The next comment came from a guy who left a link for a site that claims the Banned Book Week program is a fraud because, as it says, nobody's actually banning books. Those who run the site appear see book challenges at libraries as people protesting the "unfettered access" of "inappropriate books" to children.

I tried to be nice about the link left there.

No, I think it is just paid with the feeling of power! There are so many things that make people feel powerless that they grab at any chance to feel 'in control'. (war, drugs, legal system, gangs, etc.)
