| I also have been pleased with medicare and how well it works. We have had no hassles and do have a supplemental policy, but everything has been billed and paid efficiently.
Now I think first we should start with the children and make sure all children have the benefits the old folks have. We could do it.
Our mental health clinic was a certified medical clinic so we could bill insurance. It was often a nightmare, where different insurance companies had different requirements. Staff spent hours on billing. I think with universal health care we could simplify a lot of processes.

| You're right Carol. Medicare is a god-send for those who have reached the age when it becomes available. However there are many who will never get there because of sickness/illness that was not treated because the person didn't have healthcare. That's where the problem lies. Everyone should have access to healthcare and it is possible. Doesn't it make more sense to protect human life with funding of healthcare rather than take human life with funding of wars? So when they say we can't afford it, remind them of the war that we can't afford that has and continues to put us deeper in debt. It can be done and it is affordable. There are enough programs to copy, like in Europe, that are working well. _________________ "To Beirut and Back" http://www.freewebs.com/abemarch |

| I don't even think the funding is impossible. I don't think we have to take money from any other program. If it were set up honestly there would be no problem.
When I had a small business, there was no way we could afford health care for our eleven employees. American Airlines paid far less for health care for each of its thousands than it would have cost our small business per person. But. . . if we had to pay a reasonable and affordable amount into the federal or state government for universal health care for all, we would have been more than glad to do so, like social security or unemployment tax. If each business had to do this, universal health care would be paid for.
But, whether a federal or state program, is a question. There are states working on universal health care for all their residents.
And I don't think there would be problems with doctors as in the past. I think many would just as soon forget worrying about how to get insurance to pay for services needed, and just treat patients to their best ability. So much time and effort goes into the issues of what gets paid for, that the best treatment gets by-passed.
There will always be those who are dishonest and mess up the system. Thus a system of checks and balances are needed.
