Wish I could help but I fail to qualify as one of the smart people. You might try placing an ad in Writer's Digest or The Writer. The drawback is they cost money.

Smart people, eh? That lets me out.

Have you tried social networks? Or maybe you could set up your own Ning social network and offer free editing to a limited number of members in return for free advertising/endorsements on their profile pages and personal websites.

I agree with Shelagh about the social networks. MySpace and Facebook will give you a lot of visibility.

Authorsden.com (www.authorsden.com) is a great place to reach other authors. You may also want to try Booksie (www.booksie.com).

Hello Sue

Thank you for your inquiry. We offer every typing service there is from word processing to desktop publishing to transcribing. We have done everything from resumes and letters to thesis and dissertations including spreadsheets.

There is not a document that we cannot type for anyone. I have personally re-written a 160-page book for a professor in Baltimore, which included revision and editing.

If you would like to see copies of any of our work, please do not hesitate to call upon us, and we will send them to you.

In anticipation of your reply, thank you again for your inquiry.

Kathleen and Cynthia

PS. Sue, if you have any further questions, please contact us. Thank you.

Kathleen, have you considered a website? It might help get the word out, and you could post some examples of your work.

Hello Zada

I have a website: http://www.freewebs.com/magicfingerssecretarialservice which states our services and has samples of graphics Cynthia has created. Please feel free to look at it.

Thank you for the advice.

Hi Kathleen,

I had a look at your site, and the messages here. It seems as though you need a marketing plan (IMO it's equally and even more important than your business plan). That would help you to overcome the competition with "virtual assistant" businesses, as well as writing services like "elance", which you are competing with directly. You may have done this already, but I also suggest that people start with looking at websites and promo materials (especially the way they write their sales letters and create the text for their websites) that their competition is using, and then figure out what makes you stand out from that competition. Use that difference - your unique selling proposition - to draw clients to you. Best of luck!

Hello Pam

Thank you for your advice and your help. I shall discuss this matter with my business partner. I do agree that there is much competition out there.

Have a wonderful evening
