| Oh, elfie. elfie. elfie...
In the south, we love boiled peanuts, hon. Salty...with the shells kind of soft-ish. During the summer, vendors set up little spots along the route to the coast, selling freshly-boiled (or "boilt") goobers. Some even branch out to include the hot and spicy version.
I think they are an acquired taste. I grew up eating them. One of my editor friends from Texas has to stop on the way to the writer's conference at U of Georgia, just to get her fix. _________________ Southern fiction with a madhatter twist... www.rhettdevane.com |

| Uh huh ... I see it now. There are those two all important words: acquired taste!
Like, totally, gag me with a spoon!
But now I know. Next time I cruise through Tally and want to bring a gift ... hmmm.
(just got to remember to also pick up a clothes pin too; to clip my nose)
Okay, don't agree with the peanuts ... but I DID agree about those Cathead Biscuits. They are yummy!!! _________________ ~ JoElle ~ http://www.joellemartin.com

| I think boiled peanuts are grand. They taste a lot like pinto beans. I wonder if anyone has thought of refried boiled peanuts with cheese, salsa and a dab of sour cream. Love, Betty _________________ www.woofferbook.com |

| I missed JoElle's comment about boiled peanuts. I LOVE them dang thangs! If I have to get the canned variety, my favorite is Briar Patch brand. I eat `em right out of the can, but for a special treat, heat them up.
When we can find fresh green peanuts, we boil our own. Refried, Betty? Now that's something I have to try. Sounds yummy! _________________ Brew My website:http://www.philwhitley.com "Let us dare to read, think, speak and write." ~ John Adams, 1765 |

| I can't believe anyone would eat boiled peanuts. Then again, I can't believe a lot of things I learned during the 30 weeks I spent in Gaw-guh. Do you know that some people down there actually eat catfish? _________________ Mystery Writers of America, Private Eye Writers of America www.dickstodghill.com |

Only after they have been skinned (skunt?), battered and fried, Dick. What else can you do with those ugly things? We have restaurants here that are NAMED for this suthun delicacy - Catfish Cabin, Catfish King - and always with the message, ALL YOU CAN EAT. They are typically served with coleslaw and hushpuppies.
I'm beginning to see why you're anemic... _________________ Brew My website:http://www.philwhitley.com "Let us dare to read, think, speak and write." ~ John Adams, 1765 |

| Wow. We go from Carter's little liver pills to peanuts that are boiled. I never tasted a boiled peanut, just those great roasted variety. And somehow catfish got involved here as well. Perhaps the boiled peanuts can be fed to those catfish and then recycled. I'll have to ask JoElle about that. _________________ "To Beirut and Back" http://www.freewebs.com/abemarch |

| Very funny, Brew. Those all-you-can-eat catfish restaurants would make a ton of money from me because the amount would be zero. Some people in this part of the country do catch catfish by sticking their hand in the fishes mouth. I suppose they eat them, too. Now Boston scrod, I could eat that every day of the week. _________________ Mystery Writers of America, Private Eye Writers of America www.dickstodghill.com |

| Catfish is a common dish all over the south. Even in Texas! I did not care for the taste of it, and prefer Salmon and Cod. Better yet, make it sturgeon or halibut. First choice would of course be lobster and crab! _________________ Zada Connaway Mother's Journals: parts 1, 2 and 3 ISBN # 1-4241-6969-0

I have heard that called "noodling", Dick, but we always called it "catfish grabbin'". Never could bring myself to do it though... there's just something about sticking your hand into an underwater hole and feeling around for something to grab that isn't appealing to me. _________________ Brew My website:http://www.philwhitley.com "Let us dare to read, think, speak and write." ~ John Adams, 1765 |

| I think it was Jeff Foxworthy who told this...
The last words of a redneck is frequently, "Hey, y'all, watch this!" _________________ Brew My website:http://www.philwhitley.com "Let us dare to read, think, speak and write." ~ John Adams, 1765 |

| When I was in New Zealand, I met an American who was staying in the same bed & breakfast hotel in Christchurch. He was about to pay a visit to the surrounding countryside as an invited guest of a New Zealand family. He was very concerned that he might not fit in with rural life. I told him about tickling trout but he thought I was kidding him. When he returned from his trip, he said that there was such a thing as catching fish by tickling and scooping. He was amazed. Then again, he had never heard of the Tickled Trout Hotel in Lancashire:
The recently refurbished Tickled Trout Hotel stands on the banks of the River Ribble, yet is only minutes away from the M6. It's not just the location that makes it so popular, service at the Tickled Trout Hotel is second to none. The garden nestles on the banks of the ancient River Ribble, overlooking the Lancashire countryside.
