PostSubject: An Anthology Not Our Own   Thu Aug 21, 2008 7:32 pm

This is not about our own Published Authors anthology, FOREVER FRIENDS, but another to which I'm a chance contributor.

There is an on-line literary magazine based in one of the politically-blue New England states, and its quarterly content reflects the liberal leanings of the poets and writers that make up the complement of registered and guest contributors. I sent them an essay in 2006 primarily to tease the editorial staff with a contribution from a red-state gunwriter, which is how I presented myself to them. Surprisingly, my essay was accepted for publication.

Then in late 2007, a paper-print "Best of 2006" collection was published, the content gleaned from the previous year's collected on-line works. My essay was included. The collection included ninety pieces, mostly single page poems but several prose selections of fiction and essay in varying length. Several authors and poets had multiple titles in the mix. If a theme could be assigned at all, it would reflect the coffee-house liberality of the contributors.

Now I see that another paper print volume is to be issued later this year, with a "Best of 2007" tag, and I'm curious. During that year, I contributed, and the editors accepted, pieces for three of the four issues--two essays and one fiction story. Of course I will not know, as neither will the other contributors, if one or more of my pieces make the cut until the book comes out. If it does, maybe two, maybe all three, I'll certainly acquire a copy for my library as a trophy of another West-of-the Rockies writer breaching the Eastern Establishment literary clique.

Congrats on getting in there the first time as a red state writer! That's pretty cool in and of itself.

Malcom, that was my only intent, to tweak the Liberals, just for the fun of it.

Are you tweaking me, Jim? I feel something funny going on and wonder if I'm being tweaked.
