PostSubject: Glacier Park Donation from Publisher   Sat Mar 13, 2010 10:19 pm

Vanilla Heart Publishing announced this morning that it will donate a portion of the profits from the new release of my novel "The Sun Singer" to Glacier National Park's centennial program during the next three months.

The novel is set in the park and it's rather coincidental that it reached Vanilla Heart and ended up being released during the same year as Glacier's 100th birthday.

More info on "Malcolm's Round Table" here: http://knightofswords.wordpress.com/2010/03/13/glacier-centennial-the-sun-singer/

And from a different perspective, on Writer's Notebook here: http://jockstewart.typepad.com/writers_notebook/2010/03/synchronicity-and-the-glacier-park-centennial.html

The news makes my day.

Malcolm

Pretty cool, Malcolm. My uncle was a ranger there and I have some very vivid memories of visting them there: bears in the garbage, deer in the yard, 18 inch trout lurking in the limpid water.

Bear, deer and trout: that's the place. Also some nice northern pike and enough trails to put blisters on your feet if you don't have comfortable boots.

Thanks, Lin.

Oh, and he used to call square dances at that big, incredible lodge. I thought that was the coolest building on the planet when I was a kid.

Don left Glacier to become the head ranger on Blue Ridge Parkway, and retired as the head of the Southeast Region of the National Park Service. But he always said he liked his time at Glacier best, drving his green service Lark up the Going To The Sun highway.

Hi Malcolm,

I am halfway through the Sun Singer. I promised that I would have written the review by now -- but that was before I had to add forty deleted blog posts to Literature & Fiction (still a few more interviews to add!). There have been a few other problems to deal with too! I haven't forgotten you and I will write that review!

Lin, your uncle worked at two places I like a lot. In addition to Glacier, I've spent a considerable amount of time along the Blue Ridge Parkway. A great place to drive, with plenty of mountain views, picnic spots and other attractions. And, like Glacier, sometimes I find snow there later in the year than expected.

Malcolm

P.S. The lobbies of Glacier Park Lodge and Many Glacier Hotel are very similar and have plenty of ambiance for square dancing.
