I should think, Pam, that the nasty blurb would not make it onto the cover of the book!
LOL,
Best wishes,

| I have no wise words on this one, except to say that if your prose is too purple and too over the top, this book review site will track you down and "give you an award" for the worst blurb of the year: http://oneminutebookreviews.wordpress.com/

| Sounds like they probably didn't Lin, which is really...weird. Who writes a review but doesn't read the bleedin' book? Is it someone that you asked to write a quote? If so, can you throw a cream pie at them or something? Anything??? If you don't know them, I think I'd make sure there was a brick in the bottom of it. Just in case you wondered how I felt or something... _________________ Pam Robertson http://andthebandplayedonmylawn.blogspot.com |

Those are some really excellent examples, and exactly the sort of help I was looking for!
Did you hear from more than the three? Did you receive something useable?
Best of luck,

Rowena,
It took a while, but I did eventually get blurbs from 6 writers (one declined because of health reasons, as I expected he would, and another, who travels a lot, didn't get the manuscript on time--and I guess I miscounted, because there were only 8 I hit up, not 9). So there's a really nice quote from David Morrell (author of BROTHERHOOD OF THE ROSE and the creator of Rambo) going on the front cover, and others from a variety of bestselling writers on the back and inside. Now we'll find out if blurbs can actually spur sales...

| Good luck, Jeff. Hope it works for you.
I have to admit, tho, blurbs do not entice me to buy. Instead, it's the cover, and if it's by an author I know and like, all the better. But it's the cover, the title, the back cover blurb or mini-synopsis, then the first few paragraphs to see if the writer connects to me. It's only later that I might glance at the quotes from other writers and newspapers.
The cover on your book entices me and the title is dynamite. I'd think that would attract buyers. But of course, having a blurb by David Morrell is pretty darn good! _________________ www.brendahill.com www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Cu6YeS9_Ro |
