| Take you pick Brenda. They have been here for ages and will be here long after I'm gone. If they could talk they would tell stories. Sitting at an old castle is a great place to ponder things. Whatever worries/concerns/problems one has are somehow diminished. _________________ "To Beirut and Back" http://www.freewebs.com/abemarch |

Abe I knew you had it in you to use the word, you just needed a little coaxing to get it "out".
When it comes to writing sex it is pretty difficult to "get it right", in part because what brings ecstasy to one person is not the same for another. I tend to start a scene and then let people's imagination take over, which allows anyone who reads it to understand it through their own experience, but through the vehicle of my writing. Does that make sense?
I got interested in writing romance when I was pretty young, and for many reasons. One of the most compelling was the stuff that I read. I recall being quite young and sneaking into my parent's book collection to "borrow" some of the raciest, sexiest, bodice ripping stuff ever. I think I was about 13 at the time when I discovered the first book, and about 15 before I got caught...they were looking for their copy of the Joy of Sex and it was under my mattress. Boy was I in trouble!
Seriously though, I think that to write we do need some practical life experience, but do not need it all. What we do need is to be able to write well (craft a story). When I write about a particular place, I like to have seen it with my own eyes and feel the wind on my own face before I write about it, which is why I write about places that I have been. But I also add extra stuff if it helps me to "build" the story. Other people don't; they seem to be able to tell very compelling stories about places they have never been to, just by looking them up on the internet. When it comes to writing sex I'll leave it up to the readers to contemplate whether I've written a particular scene from experience, imagination or a bit of both. _________________ Pam Robertson http://andthebandplayedonmylawn.blogspot.com |

Abe, if I may hijack your post for a moment, I just want to say that I've received emails from a couple of people asking if I'm okay. They said my comments sounded different from my normal and asked if I were depressed.
Thanks, guys, for your concern. It's truly wonderful to know someone cares.
And yes, I guess I was feeling pretty low about some news I'd received and should've hid in the closet instead of browsing a forum. No deaths or anything that horrible, thank goodness.
So thanks again, and maybe I'll be back in a few days.
Thanks Abe! |
Of course we care! This forum is here because we care.
...you just call out our names, and you know wherever we are, we'll come running to see you again. Winter, spring summer or fall, all you've got to do is just call ... ain't it good to know that you've got forum friends? _________________ Shelagh Watkins http://shelaghwatkins.co.uk/ |

It's a good start Abe!! I think another way to get to it is to, er...practice. Do it, write it, do it some more, write some more. And if your partner gets tired of practicing, or people don't have one, then a writer could visit the adult section of the library and read about it...or perhaps that's the adult section of the video store. Oh who am I kidding? You live in Germany...I'll bet those movies are in the main section of the store!! _________________ Pam Robertson http://andthebandplayedonmylawn.blogspot.com |

| You're right Zada, but usually after midnight.
An incident, that still causes me to smile, occured when I was working in Beirut:
On a business trip to Frankfurt with a business associate, we took with us a friend who had never been out of Beirut. He was in his early 50’s, a family man and very conservative. We checked into the Intercontinental hotel and agreed to meet after changing clothes, to go out onthe town. My associate thought it would be interesting to take Alfred to some places he had never been before. When Alfred came out of his room, he was sporting an Ascot with his blazer. That in itself was amusing since I had never seen him without a suit and tie.
We walked to Kaiserstrasse – a street with all the girly bars, porno and sexual-aid shops. Alfred’s eyes were popping just walking on the street. We entered a bar at random and took a seat. On the small stage was a woman in the act of pleasuring herself. That was when Alfred started uttering, “Ooooh, Oooooh, Oooooooh, Ooooooooooh.”
After returning to Beirut, whenever Alfred was referenced, my associate would look at me and say, “Oooh, Oooooh, Ooooooh.” It always cracked us up. _________________ "To Beirut and Back" http://www.freewebs.com/abemarch |

| Abe that's hiliarious -- and you did an admirable job of describing Alfred's ecstasy over and over again.
Does this sound sexy...or like a ghost...oooh, ooooooh, ooooh? Because when Abe writes it, there are certainly sexual over tones. _________________ Pam Robertson http://andthebandplayedonmylawn.blogspot.com |
