My latest WIP had been doing the rounds of agents and publishers since late autumn last year. So far I've had three requests for full manuscripts from e-book publishers and one from a New York Agent.

While it goes without saying that I'd love to see my book in print, and on the shelves of my local bookstore, I would quite happily settle for an e-book version with the option of print further down the line.

For once, it looks as if I've done something right or should that be write? Laughing

Hi Jenny,

Good luck with the agent. You have worked hard and you deserve this. My manuscript was requested by an e-book/print book publisher last spring but it was rejected after three months. Even then, I had to ask for a decision to be made. I'm not disappointed because I have done a great deal of work on the novel since then. It actually feels good to be in complete control and, although the hard work on the manuscript isn't finished yet, (I'm still not satisfied!) it will be soon!

I wish you luck with this, and I very much hope you have got it write this time! Typo intended! LOL! Laughing

Hi Shelagh,

One thing I've learned is not to give up. This manuscript has had its share of rejections. I listened to what the Agents said, went back and read it again, and made some changes. There are probably still things that I could change, improve on, but I think you reach a point where you have to say "enough" and move on to the next project.

I'm sure there's an agent/publisher out there for you too, Shelagh. Don't just target agents in here in the UK - stretch the envelope, and look overseas - you never know, you might strike gold!

Good luck.

Jenny

Hi Jenny, the fact that agents actually said something constructive in their rejection letters and didn't just send you back a form rejection slip is about as high an indication that they think you're publishable material and on the right road as you can get. Take great heart from that!

It does sound promising, Jenny. George is very right about being glad it's not just a standard form letter rejection slip.

Good luck, Jenny.

I sold four books to small publishers before I got my agent. Even with my agent I still sell whatever he doesn't want to small presses who are more flexible.
Never give up.

what if all the writers got together and changed their names to the same one. then the poor agents might actually have to read the queries that come in.

Just to bring everyone up to speed. My current WIP is with 3 e-book publishers, and one agent. I've just had another request for a partial from a second agent! Very Happy

Hi Shelagh,

Thanks for your good wishes. I'd be happy if the agents only asked for the full manuscript - at least I'd know I was doing something right!! But to snag one of them would be the icing on the cake!! Cross your fingers for me.

Seems things are happening.
I wrote a children's story in 1976. I even had a song written to accompany it. I tried to find a publisher but no interest. Just last year I gave it to my daughter to see if she could do something with it but nothing happened. Then just this past month I sent an inquiry to an agent and got a bite. The Agent wants to handle it with a traditional publisher. I can't believe it. It took more than 30 years to get this far.

Now with my current manuscript, if I have to wait 30 years, I'm not sure I would know what an Agent did or was.
